Reading MaterialOctober through May, we alternate between two anthologies, one of short stories and the other of essays. The first anthology is The Oxford Book of American Short Stories (2nd edition), edited by Joyce Carol Oates. The second anthology is The Best American Essays of the Century, edited by Joyce Carol Oates and Robert Atman. We take the summer off, and we read a novel in September.
