| All human history in a trilogy of great books |
|
Well ---- maybe not ALL human history, but a good start, at least, from these three excellent books. Some groups have already read "Guns, Germs & Steel" by Jared Diamond. This book attempts to explain why European civilization was so successful in colonizing Africa, North and South America, and parts of Asia. Why wasn't it the other way around? Couldn't the Aztecs have gotten to Spain before Cortez got to them? The second book in this concocted trilogy is "The Journey of Man" by Spencer Wells. Using DNA analyses, Wells trace the migration of our oldest ancestors 50,000 years ago from Africa to the rest of the globe. This book was also the basis for a PBS documentary. So what happened between 50,000 years ago and the Age of Colonization? An excellent book that partially fills in this large gap is "Antiquity : From the Birth of Sumerian Civilization to the Fall of the Roman Empire" by Norman Cantor. Have you read any of these books?
