| Houston Great Books Council Special HGBC Events |
| In addition to our work with the many GB discussion groups around town, the Houston Great Books Council also conducts city-wide events designed to bring together our entire membership. Our last such event was the "Mrs. Dalloway Bash" on September 18, 2004 at the University of St. Thomas. We had a great day of discussion, networking (and eating). |
| We are also partners with the Houston Public Library and the Houston Chronicle in their annual "Books on the Bayou" celebration and we have conducted special discussions in conjunction with "Oprah Reads the Classics". |
| The "News" section of our home page and our Yahoo group will be our primary vehicles for keeping you informed about special Houston Great Books activities. Please contact us with suggestions for events that might interest you. |
| For the past three summers, we have organized Great Books outings to the Houston Shakespeare Festival at Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park. Our members were able to enjoy the performance together, preceded by dinner at a local restaurant for a warm-up discussion. It's a great chance to take in some Shakespeare and meet your peers from other GB discussion groups. |
